Tosca Returns

You've seen her before:

Soon you'll see her all dressed up.

Yes, she's Tosca.  She absconded a few weeks ago and now she's back.

Well, we all know that if we let our friends out of our sight for a while, they change.  I shouldn't be surprised. ;-)

  1. Is that a real head badge?

I always preferred straight through fully enclosed cable runs.

Looking forward to seeing her all dressed up. Think about larger files for your "here are my bikes" section so that we can better drool over them...

  2. Mike and Coline,

Thank you for your compliments. The head badge isn't a head badge: They couldn't fit one. So it's a decal. Alas...

  3. Wow! That thing is sharp enough to cut glass! Nice color combo.

  4. Wow what beautiful paintwork! Did they fix something else on Tosca, I can't recall? I like the fork decals and their colors, are they symbolic of anything? Can't wait to see this machine roll.

  5. That's the one you sent off to Mercian for refurbishing? Nice! They do offer head badges - why couldn't they fit one? I should think it would fit. Anyhow - enjoy putting it all back together. That's one of my favorite things!

  6. Phillip--I love the metaphor.

Monkey--There was a dent in the down tube that expanded. I thought there might have been more damage, but there wasn't. Mercian fixed that, and changed the threadless steer tube to a threaded one.

Brooks--A few months ago, I sent my Mercian mixte (Vera) for a refinish and repair. That one was painted in mauve pearl (#53) with no panels. as I thought they (or, a seat tube panel, anyway) would look cluttered. That one has a headbadge, but the folks at Mercian said they couldn't fit one (actually, they said "just barely", which means it would have been cluttered) on Tosca, the bike that just came back.

For the record, Tosca's new colors are Purple Polychromatic (#9) with Dusty Rose Pearl (#49) panels and lug insets with white lining and Gothic transfers.
