Because He Would Not Stop

Today is Dia de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead.

Emily Dickinson, was a great a poet, but I doubt she had any contact with Latinx culture. Most likely, she never rode a bicycle, either. So, when she penned

Because I could not stop for Death--

          He kindly stopped for me

I don't think she had this in mind:

Enjoy the day!

  1. the bench the observer is sitting on is sort of in tune with the skeleton on the bike; it's cleverly constructed but looks pretty uncomfortable... how's the healing up going?

  2. i just noticed that the bike the skeleton is on doesn't seem to have brakes whereas the other one has rod brakes: perhaps a subtle comment on a properly equipped bike?

  3. Mud--My recovery is going well. Thanks for asking.

I wonder how much the skeleton and observer were thinking about technical details. As for the skeleton on the brakeless bike: That might confirm some people's belief about what will happen to them if they ride brakeless. I did--on my fixed-gear bike, anyway--for years, though I now have brakes on my "fixie."
